I had the opportunity of working as a Marks verification Officer for the SSLC Examination (Tamil) at one of the valuation centers in Coimbatore in 1980. The Chief Examiners used to prepare mark lists and our work was to compare the marks with those found in the scripts and to make corrections, if any.

A new virus is spreading. It is seeping deep into our educational system. If it is not contained and destroyed immediately, it will multiply infinitely within a short time and engulf the whole organism of our educational system.

As a small boy it was fascinating for me to sit for hours with absorbing interest in a carpenter’s workshop next door marveling his dexterity in using the tools, often trying to drill a hole using the hand drill in vain. It needed a lot of skill and physical strength too. Now the same workshop is being run by the younger generation. What a sea change there! What a variety of furniture they make using modern tools! Hand drills have been replaced by electric drills. Things are done more easily and quickly now. They have earned a fortune now. They deserve it.

This article deals with the plight of logic in Geometry in our schools. Almost all branches of science take recourse in logic for their axiomatic treatments. Even social sciences are no exceptions. But mathematics is logic personified. William Whitehead and Bertrand Russel have shown that mathematics is symbolic logic.
